NSA hacked Mexican president's email

The US National Security Agency hacked the email account of Mexico's then-President Felipe Calderon in 2010, Germany's Spiegel reported today, citing documents from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

In the operation, called "Flatliquid," the NSA used a server to gain access to Calderon's account and the Mexican presidential domain used by cabinet members for diplomatic and economic communications, according to the report.

A Southern California woman who mocked American authorities via Twitter—after having fled the country—was finally arraigned on Monday in a San Diego courtroom.

Wanda Lee Ann Podgurski, 60, was arrested in Rosarito, Mexico on July 4, 2013. This was a month after she tweeted “Catch me if you can,” seemingly directed at San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, apparently the only person Podgurski followed on Twitter at the time.

Anonymous hackers score win over Mexican drug cartel

Latin American members of the activist hacker group Anonymous called off a November 5 plan to expose people associated with the Zetas, Mexico's most violent drug cartel, according to the group's blog.

In a post written in Spanish on the group's Latin American blog, the members said they had called off the action after the Zetas met a demand to release a kidnapped group member, and that: "We can say that, while bruised, he is alive and well".

Hackers target Mexico government websites

The websites of several Mexican government ministries, including Defense and Public Security, went offline on Thursday, and a hacker group claimed responsibility.

The ministry websites as well as several local government sites went down early on Thursday afternoon and could still not be accessed. A spokesman for the Mexican Defense Ministry said only that the website was experiencing technical difficulties.
