Internet attorney Reinhardt Buys says a recent court judgment underlines the importance of IT risk management in companies.

Buys says that notwithstanding the requirements of the King II report, a recent court case concluded that a person may be held liable for damages or losses that resulted from a so-called "negligent omission" - the failure and/or refusal to do something when reasonably required to do so.

A former Boston College student accused of using special software to collect personal data on thousands of fellow students, staff and faculty was sentenced to five years of probation.

Douglas Boudreau, 22, of Warwick, Rhode Island, pleaded guilty Thursday to interception of wire communications, unauthorized access to a computer system, larceny, identity fraud and other charges.

The suspected leader of one of the Internet's oldest piracy groups has been indicted, and his extradition from Australia is being sought, a top U.S. attorney said Wednesday.
A federal grand jury in Connecticut charged Hew Raymond Griffiths of Bateau Bay, Australia, with one count of conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement and one count of copyright infringement related to his alleged role in leading the software piracy group called DrinkorDie.
