Mystery worm scrambles Iranian databases

A new worm that appears to be targeted at Iran seeks to sabotage corporate databases by searching for specific phrases and values and replacing them with random ones.

This latest bug, dubbed the "Narilam" worm, goes after Microsoft SQL databases, according to Symantec, which first uncovered the malicious code.

Iran has denied claims a virus that forced computers to play the AC/DC classic ‘Thunderstruck’ infected systems helping run its nuclear programme.

Last month, F-Secure’s chief research officer, Mikko Hypponen, was sent an email that appeared to be from a scientist working at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), claiming nuclear systems had been targeted by cyber attackers.

FBI Investigating ZTE for Selling Spy Gear to Iran

The FBI has launched an investigation into allegations that a top Chinese maker of phone equipment supplied Iran with U.S.-made hardware and software, including a powerful surveillance system, in violation of federal laws and a trade embargo, according to The Smoking Gun.

Investigators, who began their probe earlier this year, have also found evidence that the company planned to obstruct a Department of Commerce inquiry into the contract behind the sales.

NASA refutes Iranian cyberattack claims

NASA, the US space agency, has denied that its website had been hacked and information stolen by a band of Iranian students that called themselves the "Cyber Warriors Team."

The group bragged in a May 16 post on Pastebin that it had hacked a NASA site and stolen the personal information of thousands of NASA researchers. The site allegedly compromised is called the Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System.

3 million Iranian bank accounts hacked

After finding a security vulnerability in Iran’s banking system, Khosrow Zarefarid wrote a formal report and sent it to the CEOs of all the affected banks across the country. When the banks ignored his findings, he hacked 3 million bank accounts, belonging to at least 22 different banks, to prove his point.

BBC says we've been hacked by Iran

Director-general of the BBC's Persian service, Mark Thompson, said the BBC had suffered a "sophisticated cyber attack", most likely perpetrated by the Iranian government.

The attacks included attempts to jam satellite feeds of the British Broadcasting Corporation services into Iran and an automated phone jamming attack that swampped lines at its London office.
