Apple’s third-generation iPad offers major improvements in its hardware, software and Internet cloud services, but retains the same overall form factor, price and extended battery life of its predecessor. 

In our initial review of the first iPad in 2010, we had to introduce it as an entirely new category of product. A new form factor, a new feature set, new user interface and a new overall way of working with technology that Apple has since come to refer to as a “Post-PC” device.

Apple sets new record selling 3 million iPads in 3 days

Apple has said that it sold 3 million units of its new iPad tablet computers over the weekend, setting a new company record.

The  original ipad which debuted in 2010 sold 300,000 units in its first day and it took 28 days to get 1 million units. Numbers for the iPad2 sales in 2011 were not available, however estimates range from 400,000 to about 1 million during its first weekend on sale.

Apple's attempt at its own answer is the 'Configurator' tool, which quietly slipped out during all the hoopla of the latest iPad and Apple TV releases. It provides a simple interface for profile creation and deployment and makes it a little easier to set up a fleet of iPads.

Forget Super Tuesday. For technology enthusiasts, it’s all about what happens on Wednesday in Cupertino, Calif., where Apple is expected to unveil the next generation of its iPad.

The company is headed into its Wednesday media event with plenty of consumer anticipation for its next tablet computer, despite the fact that Apple hasn’t even confirmed that it is introducing a new iPad. The company’s media invitation said only: “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”

Apple's special media event—one that many believe to be for the next-generation iPad—is now mere days away. By this time next week, we'll know once and for all how many of those pesky pre-event rumors were true and which ones were made up by "optimistic" sources.

Because there are so many elements to consider for the as-yet-unannounced iPad, which is colloquially being referred to as the "iPad 3," we thought we'd round them up in one spot to talk about what seems most plausible.

iPad 3 is 0.81mm thicker according to new leaked photo

While comparison photos of the iPad 2 rear shell and a claimed iPad 3 rear shell have shown slightly increased thickness for the forthcoming model and reports have suggested that the difference is roughly 1 mm, no measurements had surfaced to quantify the exact difference in thickness between the two devices.

Apple.pro now points to a new photo showing both shells being measured with a digital caliper. According to the photo, the iPad 2 rear shell measures in at 8.69 mm thick while the iPad 3 part comes in at 9.50 mm, a difference of 0.81 mm.

Apple’s stock price has been breaking its own records pretty frequently of late. So, it doesn’t come as much surprise that the price per share shot up to a new record high today after the company announced its iPad 3 launch event.

Already trading at over $500 per share, the price began skyrocketing once the news that Apple had delivered press invitations to the event – breaking its own recent record and reaching a high of $534.62.
