China urges the United States to immediately stop its cyberattacks against China and stop smearing China, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday.

China's National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center and the 360 Digital Security Group jointly published a report titled "Volt Typhoon: A Conspiratorial Swindling Campaign Targets with U.S. Congress and Taxpayers Conducted by U.S. Intelligence Community" on April 15.

Over the weekend, developer Mattia La Spina launched iGBA as one of the first retro game emulators legitimately available on the iOS App Store following Apple's rules change regarding such emulators earlier this month. As of Monday morning, though, iGBA has been pulled from the App Store following controversy over the unauthorized reuse of source code from a different emulator project.

US woman arrested, accused of targeting young boys in $1.7M sextortion scheme

A 28-year-old Delaware woman, Hadja Kone, was arrested after cops linked her to an international sextortion scheme targeting thousands of victims—mostly young men and including some minors, the US Department of Justice announced Friday.

Citing a recently unsealed indictment, the DOJ alleged that Kone and co-conspirators "operated an international, financially motivated sextortion and money laundering scheme in which the conspirators engaged in cyberstalking, interstate threats, money laundering, and wire fraud."

Australian police arrests man over alleged creation and sale of 'Firebird' RAT

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has arrested a man for allegedly developing a remote access trojan (RAT) and selling it on a hacking forum.  The Australian man was arrested by the AFP on April 11 and will appear at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on May 7 charged with 12 counts of computer offences related to the RAT known as ‘Firebird’.

The RAT enables users to remotely access and control a person’s device without their knowledge.

SD cards finally expected to hit 4TB in 2025

Western Digital plans to release the first 4TB SD card next year. On Thursday, the storage firm announced plans to demo the product in person next week.

Western Digital will launch the SD card, which follows the SD Association's Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) standard, under its SanDisk brand and market it toward "complex media and entertainment workflows," such as high-resolution video with high framerates, using cameras and laptops, the announcement said.

The increasing power of the latest artificial intelligence systems is stretching traditional evaluation methods to the breaking point, posing a challenge to businesses and public bodies over how best to work with the fast-evolving technology.

Flaws in the evaluation criteria commonly used to gauge performance, accuracy, and safety are being exposed as more models come to market, according to people who build, test, and invest in AI tools. The traditional tools are easy to manipulate and too narrow for the complexity of the latest models, they said.

Congress sounds alarm on lax dam cybersecurity

America’s dams lack the resources to beef up their digital defenses, and the federal agency charged with oversight of the sector is understaffed and behind on performing cyber audits, experts said during a congressional hearing Wednesday.

Experts told the Senate Energy and Natural Resources subcommittee that U.S. dams — which make up over 50% of private electricity generation — have not undergone cybersecurity audits by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which only has four staffers dedicated to the issue.
