Hacker groups penetrate sensitive Navy computer networks

Hacker groups have penetrated the sensitive computer networks of the Navy after which an inquiry was launched against naval officers in the Vishakhapatnam-based Eastern Naval Command.

Around seven months ago, a Board of Inquiry (BOI) was ordered against some officers in the Eastern Command after it was found that some of the computer systems were bugged and had been penetrated by hacker groups, Navy officials said.

Indian ISPs targeted in Anonymous censorship protest

The websites of Indian government-run communications company Mahanagar Telephone Nigam and the Internet Service Providers Association of India faced DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks from Anonymous on Wednesday as some Internet service providers continue to block file-sharing websites following a court order.

ISPs are only following the orders of the court which are supreme, said Rajesh Chharia, president of ISPAI, who was doubtful that the association's website had been affected by the hackers.

Websites of reputed government and private organisations are under threat from hackers, the Computer Emergency Response Team India (CERT-In) has said, warning users to be extra cautious while using the Internet.

"It is observed that some hacker groups are launching distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on websites of government and private organisations in India. The attacks may be targeted to different websites of reputed organisations," CERT-In, the national nodal agency for responding to computer security incidents, said in an advisory on its website. 

Chinese hackers from Tecncent apparently attack Indian and Tibetan websites

Trend Micro is reporting that websites of Indian government and Tibetan activists in India were attacked in a cyber attack campaign by a Chinese hacker, working with one of the world's largest online retailers Tencent. 

Known as the Luckycat cyber campaign, about 90 attacks were detected in recent past, against targets in India and Japan, as also Tibetan activists, according to the report released Trend. 

Satyam and Tech Mahindra to merge in $1.8 billion deal

Tech Mahindra Ltd, an Indian software developer backed by BT Group Plc, will buy Satyam Computer Services Ltd in a deal that values the target at $1.8 billion.

Tech Mahindra, which already owns 43 percent of Satyam, will swap two of its shares for every 17 held by the company’s other shareholders, according to a statement today.  The deal will merge the once-troubled company into itself in a deal which could wipe out Tech Mahindra's entire debt and create a company with a market value of nearly $3.4 billion.

Facebook blocks Indian accounts with Hindi slang for c***

The All Assam Chutia Students’ Union (AACSU) yesterday criticized Facebook for blocking thousands of accounts in the Chutia community. Facebook likely believes the accounts are fake or just spam, but AACSU argues it’s all a big misunderstanding. The student organization burned a Facebook effigy in the five upper Assam districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Golaghat on Monday and demanded public apology from the social networking giant.

Microsoft India backtracks, now says hack may have exposed credit card details

Microsoft has performed an about-turn in India and revealed that a recent hack of its online store may have compromised credit card details belonging to customers in the country.

When the Microsoft India Store was hacked earlier this month, the company emailed its customers to assure them that “databases storing credit card details and payment information were not affected during this compromise”. However, it now appears that this is incorrect.

Indian budget website defaced, data remains untouched

In a major embarrassment to the state government on the eve of budget, hackers on Thursday broke into a server, maintained by information technology (IT) department, and added pages to websites of 27 government departments, including the crucial budget.ap.gov.in. The hackers, apparently from a foreign location, posted messages in Urdu and English.

The hacker created additional pages dz.htm and x.htm and named himself as BBOY1, sources in the information technology and communications department said.

Cyberwar between India and Bangladesh escalates

Bangladeshi hackers have been hacking Indian sites, and Indian hackers have been hacking Bangladeshi sites. Now it is escalating as each side calls for ‘cyberwar’ against the other.

A week ago the Indian Hackers group announced a ‘cyberwar’ against Bangladesh. This was quickly followed by news that a hacker calling himself ‘Silent Hacker’ had defaced 30 Bangladeshi government websites.
