Hackers, FAA Disagree Over ADS-B Vulnerability

The ADS-B system that is the cornerstone of the FAA’s NextGen ATC modernization plan is at risk of serious security breaches, according to Brad Haines (aka RenderMan), a hacker and network security consultant who is worried about ADS-B vulnerabilities. Haines outlined his concerns during a presentation he gave at the recent DefCon 20 hacker conference in Las Vegas, explaining that ADS-B signals are unauthenticated and unencrypted, and “spoofing” or inserting a fake aircraft into the ADS-B system is easy.

Anonymous hackers target website of Russian court that jailed Pussy Riot

The website of a Moscow court that convicted three members of punk band Pussy Riot to two years in jail each for belting out a profanity-laced anti-Kremlin song inside a cathedral was hacked on Tuesday.

A slogan denouncing President Vladimir Putin was posted on the site as was an appeal for the trio's release along with a video clip of one of the band's latest anti-Putin songs and a clip by Bulgarian singer Azis, local media reported.

Philips: Data Published by Hackers Identical to the One Stolen in February

Earlier today, security researcher Janne Ahlberg has brought to our attention the fact that the file published by r00tBeer hackers – allegedly stolen from the systems of electronics manufacturer Philips – is similar to the one posted online by Hax0r of Team INTRA back in February.

The expert found that the size of the file published now is exactly the same size as the one obtained by Team INTRA.

The new hacker collective "r00tbeersec" has struck again — and this time, it matters.

More than 350 passwords, full names and email addresses belonging to Italian customers of the Dutch consumer electronics giant Philips were posted online Monday. The Italians had apparently purchased Philips flat-screen TVs with interchangeable colored frames some years ago.

Hackers warn Australian government: come clean on surveillance system or face attack

THE hacker movement Anonymous is threatening to renew attacks against the Australian government if it refuses to come clean over its use of a controversial surveillance system.

The Greens communications spokesman Scott Ludlam has tabled questions in parliament on behalf of the party querying the government about the counter-terrorism software TrapWire.

FBI surveillance backdoor might be open to hackers

This past May, according to news reports, the FBI lobbied the White House not to oppose a new piece of legislation the FBI's lawyers had drafted.

The proposed law would force companies such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Twitter to build "backdoors" into their software so that law-enforcement agencies could eavesdrop on communications.
