Hacker fears over Australia's net data plan

PRIVACY advocates say a government proposal to keep all of Australia's internet and telephone information for two years would create a ''honey pot'' for hackers and criminals.

Victoria's Privacy Commissioner warned a joint parliamentary committee yesterday that civil rights and privacy would never have a chance if governments always put national security above all other rights.

On the 29th of November 2009 Malmö's hackerspace Forskningsavdelningen was raided by masked riot police.

Armed with batons and pepper spay they stormed the social center where the hackerspace housed. Among the policemen were people specializing in IT.

One of the people detained was a hacker named mackt. With a background in The Pirate Bay, for him the raid was yet another proof of society’s mistrust and lack of understanding of hacker culture.

Hackers bring down Sweden's official websites

Several Swedish official websites were knocked offline on Monday, although no one has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

"I can confirm that the government site had problems today, but for security reasons, I cannot say more," Anna Dahlen, a government spokeswoman, told AFP adding that she did not know when the site would be back online.

Sony (Mobile) Hacked by NullCrew

Hacktivist group NullCew have claimed it has seized control of eight of Sony's servers due to lax security measures.

Through a message sent from the group's official Twitter account, the group claim that they have gained control of eight of Sony's servers, apparently related to the website Sonymobile.com. A short message sent with a dumped file on Pastebin read:

Hackers Ready 'Fake' Windows 8 Antivirus Tool

Windows 8 isn’t out yet, but hackers are already taking advantage of the buzz surrounding the name.

According to security firm McAfee, the company has come across a fake antivirus/antimalware tool called “Win 8 Security system” that claims to detect malware but in fact does nothing more than throw up fake warnings that it offers to “fix” in exchange for a fee.

Two techies arrested for hacking Indian cell recharge site

Two members of the hacker group, "Indishell", and its offshoots were arrested on Saturday after an extensive investigation by the Gautam Budh Nagar cyber crime cell. The accused, who did BTech in computer science, were charged with hacking into an e-commerce website that specializes in mobile recharge. Cops said four members of the gang with pan-India operations were at large.
