Microsoft hit by same Facebook and Apple hackers

Microsoft has revealed a small number of its computers, including some in its Mac software business unit, have been infected with malware.

The world's largest software company said the security intrusion was "similar" to recent ones reported by Apple and Facebook. It said there was no evidence of customer data being affected and it is continuing its investigation

Hackers turn Mandiant China security report into Trojan

Hackers have embedded viruses into a security report which linked the Chinese army to cyberattacks on U.S. companies, infecting computers that download digital versions of the 60-page report.

When downloaded, the tainted versions would allow hackers to remotely control infected computers after users attempted to read the report which was released last week by U.S. IT security vendor, Mandiant.

LulzSec's 'Sabu' has sentencing postponed but could face 124 years

US prosecutors have postponed the sentencing of "Sabu" - real name Hector Xavier Monsegur – who led the LulzSec hacking crew during the summer of 2011 while working as a double agent for the FBI.

Monsegur was due to appear at a Manhattan federal court on Friday for sentencing on ten counts of hacking, one of bank fraud, and one of identity theft, which together carried a maximum penalty of 124 years.

16-year-old Japanese rises above crowd in hacking event

A team of hackers led by a 16-year-old high school student is gaining attention as a favorite to win a nationwide computer hacking contest for students that started Saturday in Tokyo.

In the Security Contest Capture The Flag competition (SECCON CTF), 10 teams compete against each other to break into a server by discovering and exploiting its weaknesses.

NBC.Com Back Online After Hackers Knocks Out Service

NBC.com, the primary website for Comcast Corp. (CMCSA)’s NBC television network, was restored to normal service after being attacked by hackers.

Network parent NBC Universal is trying to determine how the attack occurred and how long the site was affected for, Tracy St. Pierre, a spokeswoman for the New York-based network, said today in a telephone interview. No user data was stolen, St. Pierre said.

Apple Inc computers were attacked by the same hackers who targeted Facebook Inc, but no data appeared to have been stolen, the company said on Tuesday in an unprecedented admission of a widespread cyber-security breach.

Facebook revealed on Friday that unidentified hackers traced to China had staged a sophisticated attack by infiltrating its employees' laptops, but no user information was compromised.

While some services like Gmail offer two-step verification to ensure only you can access your account, not every service offers security that's as air-tight. This past weekend, Wired's Mat Honan revealed that he had been hacked. Actually, the hackers themselves revealed that fact when they took control of Honan's Twitter account but Honan later divulged just how bad the attack was.
