Man charged with threats to Google exec via Twitter

A man accused of threatening a prominent Google executive via Twitter has been arrested and indicted on felony charges by a federal grand jury in San Francisco, court documents show.

Gregory Calvin King, 27, was arrested by the FBI in Texas on Aug. 19 after relocating from Virginia to the San Antonio area, according to media reports in San Antonio.

Austrian blogger and developer Florian Rohrweck recently discovered a lot of Google+’s upcoming features just by digging around in the source code for the new social networking service. He was one of the first (but not the only one), to reveal Google+ Games before its launch, for example, as well as still unreleased features like “Shared Circles” and social search, among other things.

Now, it seems, Google has had enough of Rohrweck’s snooping. It’s hiring Rohrweck to help secure the code instead.

Lockdown-evading Chrome Frame exits beta

Google, after working for months on a version of its Chrome Frame that can sidestep PC lockdown constraints, has released the first stable version of the plug-in for Internet Explorer.

Chrome Frame embeds a version of Google's browser into older versions of Microsoft's browser. Chrome Frame shows Web pages using the Chrome engine when Web programmers have set a flag that the software checks for.

Using Google servers as a DDoS tool

Google's servers can be used by cyber attackers to launch DDoS attacks, claims Simone "R00T_ATI" Quatrini, a penetration tester for Italian security consulting firm AIR Sicurezza.

Quatrini discovered that two vulnerable pages - /_/sharebox/linkpreview/ and gadgets/proxy? - can be used to request any file type, which Google+ will download and show - even if the attacker isn't logged into Google+.

Hackers acquire Google certificate, could hijack Gmail accounts

Hackers have obtained a digital certificate good for any Google website from a Dutch certificate provider, a security researcher said today.

Criminals could use the certificate to conduct "man-in-the-middle" attacks targeting users of Gmail, Google's search engine or any other service operated by the Mountain View, Calif. company.
