There are various ways to resign: calling your boss into a meeting room, sending them an email, or playing their head like a bongo drum while you shout 'I quit!' But one Australia-based games developer decided to quit his job using a videogame.

Jarrad Woods works for firm 2K Australia – one of the development arms behind 2007 title BioShock. But he recently created his own videogame with various embedded messages about his plans to resign, such as his final date in the office and a goodbye message.

Will Wright to leave Electronic Arts

Will Wright, the video game designer behind such hits as The Sims and Spore, is leaving game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. after 12 years.

Electronic Arts said yesterday that Wright is departing to run Stupid Fun Club, a company he started in 2001 to develop new forms of entertainment like video games, movies and even toys.

EA 'dumps DRM' for next Sims game

Electronic Arts have confirmed that the next version of The Sims will be free of Digital Rights Management (DRM). The firm came in for considerable criticism last year, when the copy protection limited users to three installations of the game Spore.

The Sims division head, Ron Humble, said the game would use traditional serial code copy protection as "this is a good, time-proven solution". DRM was introduced to combat game piracy but proved unpopular with users.

The take-up of Nokia's N-Gage gaming service has accelerated since the top cell phone maker has started to pre-install it in new mid- and higher-end phone models, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

Nokia's mobile gaming push has encountered major challenges over the years, with consumers shunning its dedicated gaming phones, and with its new online gaming service, opened last year, yet to move beyond a niche audience.

China bars WoW expansion

Stupendously popular online game World of Warcraft's second expansion, "Wrath of the Lich King" is being blocked by Chinese censors for showing too much bone. According JLM Pacific Epoch, China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) has twice rejected applications from Blizzard Entertainment and its domestic operator, The9, because of the game's all-too-frequent depiction of skeletons.

Sony Interested in Releasing Older, Non-PlayStation Games on PSN

Anyone who complains about how Sony has handled releasing PSOne Classics on the PlayStation Store has a valid point. Compared with the support the service has seen in Japan, the offerings in the U.S. have been nothing short of abysmal. While there might not be any guarantees that the catalog is suddenly going to explode with releases -- though Sony promises this will change -- Sony has been talking with publishers about the interesting proposition of bringing their back catalogs to PSN, including games that weren't originally on Sony platforms.

Online retail giant Amazon has yanked from its virtual shelves a Japanese computer game that lets players simulate raping girls.

A “Rapelay” videogame being hawked on Amazon by a third-party merchant was deemed inappropriate and the product’s page taken down after it was brought to the California Internet firm’s attention Wednesday night.
