Anti-cheat system 'Punkbuster' gets attacked

One "junior member" from the game-hacking site Artificial Aiming and his team of anonymous hackers are going after the anti-cheat service Punkbuster, resulting in multiple reports of Battlefield 3 multiplayer bans.

According to a report from Kotaku, the hackers are "framing" innocent Battlefield 3 players to show their hatred for the anti-cheat software "integrated" into DICE's latest shooter.

UK Cyber Security Challenge Moves To Next Phase But One Competitor Disqualified

The online competitions for The Cyber Security Challenge UK (CSC) came to a close in December and for one of the winning contestants it has brought a new job in IT security which eliminates him from the competition.

CSC does not promise the competitors a job but it does provide prizes, including  training courses and internships, that could lead to a career in IT security. For Channon Powell this has become an irrelevance.

Microsoft denies Xbox Live security breach

GAMES CONSOLE MAKER Microsoft has denied that its Xbox Live internet gaming service has been breached by hackers.

The statement comes following news that members of the service have been the victims of various scams. One user's account in particular was targeted to create new accounts with Microsoft points to be sold on the black market.

PS Vita gets hacked to run Sega Genesis games

The race is on. Proving that no gadget is hack-proof, homebrew developers have discovered an exploit in the PS Vita and have used it to get Sega Genesis games running on the handheld.

On the market (Asian) for a little over two weeks, the PS Vita got its first "Hello World" just before the end of 2011 and now, the next level of hacking has begun.

Nintendo 3DS sales hit three million

Nintendo has sold over three million units of the 3DS portable gaming system, with president of the Japanese gaming company Satoru Iwata saying that he felt the console had "regained its momentum."

Much of this resurgence in 3DS gaming has been put down to new versions of first party titles like Mario Kart, which sold almost half a million copies in the first few days of December. In the same week of its release, Nintendo was able to push over 215,000 3DS consoles in Japan alone.

Data of 13 mln S.Korean online game subscribers hacked

South Korea's communications regulator said on Saturday that personal information of more than 13 million subscribers of a popular online game of Nexon Korea Corp, a leading game developer in the country, had been leaked in a hacking attack.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) said in a statement Nexon reported to the commission late Friday afternoon that the company on Thursday discovered the leakage of personal data of its online game Maple Story's 13.2 million subscribers.

1,600 Modern Warfare 3 Players Banned For Cheating

As the saying goes, cheaters never win. While it doesn't always prove true, a huge number of cheaters definitely won't make it to the end of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Infinity Ward has banned more than 1,600 players from MW3 for cheating using glitches uncovered in the new game.

ComputerAndVideoGames.com reported that the number of banned MW3 players is expected to rise as more people exploit these illegal loopholes.

Microsoft freezes some Xbox accounts after hacks reported

Microsoft has frozen some Xbox Live accounts after online gamers reported they were hacked, and that their credit cards were used to purchase content for another video game.

The gaming website Eurogamer was alerted to the issue Oct. 11 from a reader who said the credit card associated with his gaming account was drained to purchase a content pack for "FIFA 12," the popular soccer game made by Electronic Arts for the Xbox 360.

Fake Diablo beta invites hitting inboxes

Since the third installment of the popular Diablo game franchise has been announced in 2008, fans all over the world have been impatiently waiting for it to become available.

And for some of them, the news that two days ago Blizzard had begun sending out invites for a closed beta testing run could have made them less critical of the fake invites that have, predictably, also been spotted going out.

In Japan, Microsoft struggles to connect with Kinect

Of all the Tokyo Game Show attendees who visited the Kinect booth, one salaryman in a button-down shirt stood out. He jumped into the Dance Central game with gusto, busting out crazy moves in his patent-leather shoes, literally going leaps and bounds beyond what the dance game required.

A small crowd gathered to watch his moves. At one point, he did a handstand in front of the Xbox 360 camera controller. He was making Kinect look like barrels of fun. But did the man, who gave his name as Yoshida, plan to buy the upcoming game and do “The Humpty Dance” at home?
