Nothing on the internet is safe these days. Even point-of-sale systems in stores we regularly shop in can be accessed and stolen from -- witness Target to name only one recent high profile example. However, when it comes to computers, some users see Apple as more secure. As is the case every four years, FIFA's biggest football competition is about to take place. To celebrate the 2014 tournament, which will be played in Brazil, EA Sports is releasing a title to give fans a chance to virtually experience the World Cup on gaming consoles. EA must have been rubbing its hands together yesterday when Dead Space 3 launched after a couple of million demo downloads. Not only is the game selling for $60 across three platforms, there’s also the prospect of gamers spending a further $50 on DLC and yet more on micro-transactions during play.

However, EA’s coffers may not be getting filled as quickly as the publisher had hoped due to a bug in the game. It seems there’s an exploit that can be used with item collection that renders the need to purchase items using micro-transactions unnecessary.

US videogame giant Electronic Arts (EA) has revealed that hackers had looted user data in "a highly sophisticated" attack.

A computer network hosting BioWare Edmonton's Neverwinter Nights game forums was hit by hackers who made off with users' names, passwords, email addresses, birth dates and other personal information, EA said at its website. "The server system associated with the Neverwinter Nights forums was the target of a highly sophisticated and unlawful cyber attack," EA said.
