Intrusion detection offered as cloud package by Metaflows

Network security monitoring startup MetaFlows launched a new Software-as-a-Service product that can be installed on low-cost hardware to monitor network traffic flow, detect possible intrusions and analyse event logs.

The MetaFlows Security System (MSS) is composed of local software agents that can run on inexpensive off-the-shelf hardware and a cloud-based service where the results are stored.

Zscaler launches free-to-use URL scanning service

Cloud security vendor Zscaler has launched a new free-to-use online service called Zulu that can assess the security risk associated with URLs by analyzing the content they point to, as well as the reputation of their corresponding domain names and IP addresses.

There are several free URL scanning services available online and all of them are useful in their own right. While conceptually similar to other such scanners, Zulu does have a few features that makes it stand out.

Cloud Industry Forum blames FUD for security concerns

Security is still the top concern for organisations looking to migrate to a cloud service model, with privacy following close behind, according to the latest research from the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF).

In a survey of 300 end user organisations in November last year, 62 percent cited data security as one of their most significant concerns about cloud adoption, and 55 percent said they were worried about data privacy in the cloud. Other concerns included dependence on internet access (49 percent), confidence in vendor reliability (35 percent) and contract lock in (34 percent).

RSA to focus on mobile threats and Pegasus cloud security

RSA Security executives have outlined the company's 2012 product strategy, focusing on mobility, anti-threat and cloud security.

Earlier this week RSA executive chairman Art Coviello revealed that following the attack that compromised RSA SecurID tokens last year, the company has been sought after by others who do not want such an incident to happen to them.

Foxconn plans $63m investment in cloud computing

Foxconn, the Taiwan-based electronics manufacturing giant best known for producing Apple's iPhone 4 smartphone and iPad 2 tablet, is planning a move into cloud computing.

The company plans to invest more than $63 million over five years developing a 1.85-hectare site in Taiwan that will eventually employ 3,000 software engineers developing cloud-based software for itself and clients, according to a report in Digitimes.
