Apple on Thursday released a second beta build of its upcoming OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite update to developers for testing, including what appears to be only minor tweaks and bug fixes.

The latest beta, build 14F19a, comes a little over two weeks after the first beta version was pushed out to developers and users signed up for Apple's public beta program.

Like the first beta, today's build brings minor tweaks and bug fixes aimed at improving system stability, app compatibility and security.

A day shy of its one-month anniversary, Apple Music has reeled in more than 10 million subscribers on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and iTunes, a report said Monday.

Anonymous sources connected to major music labels provided the supposed adoption numbers to HITS Daily Double, saying the swift and substantial uptake is surprising even for Apple. The data reportedly comes directly from Cupertino, which is sharing streaming statistics internally with content owners.

Today's El Capitan beta version, build 15A235d, comes less than one week after Apple seeded its last round of prerelease software for developer assessment, a round that included iOS 9 and watchOS 2 builds.

Today's beta 5 build carries over the same areas of focus from Apple's previous beta version as well as known issues with Photos, Apple ID and Language localization and formatting. Many problems can be traced back to iCloud syncing, likely due to incomplete or incompatible backend assets also in testing.

While most people tune in to Apple's WWDC keynote to figure out what's coming in the next version of the company's operating systems, the event is a developer's conference. Apple genuinely uses WWDC to introduce a lot of new technologies that end users will never experience directly. So with the exception of big news like Swift, the company generally does this in later, non-public talks and through the software released via its Developer Connection.

Get root on an OS X 10.10 Mac: The exploit is so trivial it fits in a tweet

You can bypass Apple's space-age security and gain administrator-level privileges on an OS X Yosemite Mac using code that fits in a tweet.

Yosemite, aka version 10.10, is the latest stable release of the Mac operating system, so a lot of people are affected by this vulnerability. The security bug can be exploited by a logged-in attacker or malware on the computer to gain total unauthorized control of the Mac. It is documented here by iOS and OS X guru Stefan Esser.

Apple added an entry for the Canton Road Apple Store to its regional Hong Kong webpage on Wednesday, complete with a picture of the site showing a large decorated construction barricade.

The new location's temporary facade, which for some Far East store openings incorporates a statement art piece, was unveiled last week bearing a three-dimensional Apple logo sitting high above an embossed wave pattern.

Apple's new iPod touch debuts underclocked but powerful A8 SoC, Bluetooth 4.1

Although the A8 system-on-chip incorporated into Apple's latest iPod touch models are clocked at lower speeds compared to other A8-toting devices, the silicon is plenty fast for what is essentially a stripped-down 4-inch version of the iPhone 6. Any perceived loss in speed is likely more than made up for in power savings, as the iPod touch must pack its internals into a chassis 0.6mm thinner than Apple's current iPhone.

Apple to remove Recovery Key from iOS 9, OS X 10.11 two-factor authentication process

Apple on Wednesday confirmed that the removal of a pesky Recovery Key security mechanism will be one of the changes coming to its two-factor authentication solution when iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 El Capitan are released this fall.

Currently, the Recovery Key system in Apple's "two-step" protocol works as a failsafe for accessing an Apple ID when registered trusted device or phone number is unavailable. Under the existing setup, losing both a trusted device and Recovery Key renders the account inaccessible, which has in the past forced some users to abandon their Apple IDs altogether.
