Apple is known as one of the most secretive technology companies out there, oftentimes hiding breakthroughs and advances inside of its walls. But that attitude might soon change, albeit to a small extent, as the iPhone-maker is promising to publish some of its artificial intelligence research.

Apple explains the battery problem leading to iPhone 6s shutdowns

It is a couple of weeks since Apple announced a battery replacement program for iPhone 6s handsets suffering with random shutdown issue. At the time, the company gave nothing away about what the root cause of the problem was, but now it has opened up.

In a posting on its Chinese website, Apple confirms that the shutdown problems were indeed related to a battery problem. Specifically, the company explains that it was "a battery component that was exposed to controlled ambient air longer than it should have been".

Apple said to be mulling new focus on smart glasses

Apple is considering an expansion into the wearables market with the launch of its own line of smart glasses, Bloomberg News reported Monday.

The device would connect wirelessly to the user's iPhone, displaying images and other information to the glasses wearer, Bloomberg reported, citing unidentified people described as familiar with the matter. The device, which the story said is still in the exploration phase, might also include augmented reality, Bloomberg reported.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A member of the Tame Apple Press who four years ago claimed that the Mac Pro contained everything that a laptop needed has admitted that his favourite company has dropped the ball with its latest version.

Jason Koeble wrote in 2012 a review which claimed that the non-retina MacBook Pro was the “most flexible and ultimately had the potential to be the most powerful laptop”. This was because it used used non-proprietary, upgradable RAM and the CD drive could be easily replaced with many types of solid state hard drives with minimal effort.

New MacBook Pro models reportedly incompatible with certain Thunderbolt 3 devices

Potentially adding to a growing list of complaints regarding limitations with Apple's new MacBook Pro, an aftermarket Mac accessories maker reports the notebooks might not be compatible with existing Thunderbolt 3 hardware.

Plugable, a manufacturer of docking stations, adapters and other peripherals, in a blog post this week claims Apple "design decisions" prevent Thunderbolt 3 devices running Texas Instruments controller chips from communicating with late-2016 MacBook Pro hardware.

Sharp CEO supposedly confirms Apple to use OLED in next-generation iPhone

Newly appointed CEO of Japanese display maker Sharp, Tai Jeng-wu, this weekend seemingly confirmed widespread rumors claiming Apple plans to incorporate OLED panels in a next-generation iPhone.

Tai commented on Apple's future plans in an address to students at his alma mater Tatung University, which on Saturday presented the tech industry executive with an honorary doctorate degree, Nikkei reports.
