Once thought to be building Flash for the iPhone mostly on its own, Adobe has mentioned at the World Economic Forum that it's not only continuing work on the animation plug-in but has teamed up with Apple to make it a reality.

Recently, I had to do some work on a remote Linux server. Usually, in such cases, I get command-line access to the box through a Secure Shell session, using the free Putty client for Microsoft Windows.

QuickPwn and PwnageTool Updated for iPhone 3G 2.2.1 firmware

The iPhone Dev Team has released updated QuickPwn and Pwnage tools for the recent 2.2.1 firmware update - still no sign of redsn0w (the jailbreak for the iPod Touch 2G) but they say they are working on it... In the meantime, here is the low down on using the their latest tools.

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 firmware and you want to keep your ability to use yellowns0w (or the option to use it in the future) do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.

2.2.1 firmware hints at new iPhone model (iPhone Nano?)

A new iPhone has been leaked by Apple in code tucked away in the latest firmware upgrade!

It didn’t seem like there was much of interest in the new iPhone firmware when it was released yesterday, but intrepid hackers have dug through the code and turned up a scintillating nugget- a reference to something called iPhone 2,1.

That’s a little curious, as the iPhone 2G is always referred to as iPhone 1,1, while the 3G iPhone update is iPhone 1,2. The very fact that this string is 2,1 rather than 1,3 suggests Apple is planning a major hardware overhaul of the iPhone.

If my hardware 2.0 email inbox is any barometer to go by, some people are starting to question their decision to switch to Mac. Here’s an email from Jenny that is typical of a few dozen I’ve had over the past few days:

iDVD hung out to dry as Apple pushes movies online

One of the original pillars of Apple's iLife suite, iDVD, has increasingly been given the cold shoulder to the point where it is not even depicted on the retail package anymore. How much longer will the app stick around now that the company has focused on pushing media sharing online?

Apple Yanks IMovie 6 Download

Back in 2007, Apple announced iMovie '08 would be totally new from the ground up, due to the amazing work of one of the company's engineers (who we now know was Apple's Chief Architect of Video Applications, Randy Ubillos). Not everybody was thrilled, though: many users found themselves annoyed at all the features iMovie '08 lacked compared to its predecessor, iMovie HD 6 (there's a naming scheme I'm glad Apple deep sixed).

Apple has today released their latest iPhone OS update that takes your iPhone 2.2 OS all the way up to iPhone 2.2.1 OS. The new iPhone firmware version brings little more than incremental updates and fixes to iPhone and iPhone 3G users, but if iPhone Safari stability and a reliable Camera Roll are important to you, the iPhone OS v2.2.1 might be something you want to look into.
