One of the world's foremost iPhone hackers has just released software for jailbreaking the latest firmware released for the Apple smartphone.

The tool, which in 30 seconds allows handset users to run software not authorized by Apple, doesn't work on Macs. Those users will have to continue using an older version of the firmware.

Drop the word "Apple" into any discussion with any company and the effect is nothing short of remarkable.

Over the last year, I have talked to middle-level and high-ranking executives at enough companies to know exactly what to expect when the topic of Apple is broached: fear. A recent interview with a fairly big company provides an example as good as any. (But I could cite a much bigger company too, it's doesn't seem to matter.)

Aaron Vronko, CEO of Rapid Repair, an iPod and iPhone repair shop, and one of the first technicians to take apart the iPhone 3GS and write a repair guide, has seen his fair share of reasons why broken iPhones need emergency surgery. Here are his six favorites, along with advice on how to triage the problems:

Verizon on Monday introduced a security suite for Internet service customers who use Apple's Mac OS X. The company claims that it is the first major US ISP to offer its customers Mac security software.

It's a move that appears to recognize Apple's growing share of the PC market, but is it meaningful as more than a point of differentiation between Verizon and other Internet service providers? Is security software necessary for the Mac?

Another rumor has hit the world of Apple just earlier, bringing some whispers that the company has a refresh of its iMac line all geared up and ready to be released.
