In an attempt to stop hackers from exploiting their prized iPhone operating system, Apple has begun to ban well-known hackers of the iPhone from the iTunes App Store, according to Redmond Pie’s Taimur Asad. iPhone OS 3.1.3 exploiter Sherif Hashim recently found himself in a bit of a pickle, when he received a notification stating “This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons” on his iPhone when attempting to access the App Store.

Softpedia has reason to believe Apple is very close to releasing Mac OS X 10.6.3 to the public in under 12 hours. The most recent builds seeded to developers stand as evidence that development has followed a straight line, with few impediments. To their knowledge, developers see no issues in the focus areas they’ve been assigned, putting the 700+MB update on track for release by the end of the day. Mac OS X version 10.6.3 will be the third incremental update to Apple’s Snow Leopard operating system, delivering maintenance and security fixes.

The smartphone revolution may be causing havoc for European companies like Nokia, but it is paying dividends for a British company that can trace its lineage back to the home computer revolution of the 1980s. Arm Holdings started life in a converted turkey coop near Cambridge, but has grown into a multibillion-pound business, with 1,700 employees worldwide, and its microchips can be found in most of the world's mobile phones, including the iPhone.

The group conducted what it called a "virtual teardown" of the iPad, since the device is not yet available and component suppliers have not been announced.

New iPhone 4G to be larger than 3GS?

Those looking forward to the iPhone nano will be disappointed to hear that the next Apple mobile might actually be bigger.

iPhone repair site iResQ has posted photos of what it 'believes' to be the next case for the fourth-generation iPhone - and it's bigger than the Apple template we've been used to. Admittedly, only quarter of an inch bigger, but it would still be the first time Apple has veered away from the standard iPhone design it's been crafting from since the first mobile it offered in 2007.

With the PwnageTool app now updated for Mac OS X users, most of the iPhone Dev Team’s set of jailbreak and unlock tools now supports iPhone firmware 3.1.3, the latest update from Apple. Although Softpedia does not condone jailbreaking, those who do wish to employ these tools and hack their iPhones should at least follow a few guidelines, so they don’t brick their devices.

Apple on Friday evening equipped developers with yet another build of its upcoming maintenance and security update for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard that includes few changes from an earlier build distributed two weeks ago.

People familiar with the matter say Mac OS X 10.6.3 build 10D548 was distributed alongside an enhancement and focus list nearly identical to build 10D538, which made its way to a small subset of developers last month, as AppleInsider exclusively reported.

Encrypting your iPhone backups? Time to choose a better password

If you’re using the backup encryption method introduced in iPhone OS 3.0 and your password is something like “cat”, “sex”, or “tetherball”, you should probably change it to something a bit more complicated. There be hackers wantin’ your goods!

Password recovery software company ElcomSoft has just released an iPhone backup cracking tool called iPhone Password Breaker. Now, now – don’t panic. Unlike yesterday’s exploit, this isn’t some new security hole to worry about. In fact, it’s a tale as old as hacking itself: good ol’ fashion bruteforce.
