Believe it or not but the No. 1 most searched for news story on Bing this year has been the launch of Apple's iPhone 5. In fact, the debut of this device beat out the 2012 presidential election, the Olympics, and Superstorm Sandy, which followed respectively for the next top searches. Fake Apple invoices lead to Black Hole that drains your bank account

Online criminals targeting exploits is nothing new, but they are now taking a multi-pronged approach to compromising your security.

They are not just exploiting unpatched flaws in your applications; when that fails they convince you to infect yourself.

Take, for example, this email I received today pretending to be an invoice from Apple for a $699.99 postcard. The social engineering isn't exactly perfect. I haven't been known by the Windows variable %email% in at least 10 years. Whoever is behind this has paid a lot of attention to detail, though.

AirPlay is a fantastic bundle of technology that Apple has assembled and shipped for years. Audio, video, and even a live feed of your screen can be sent wirelessly to your AppleTV using either OS X or iOS. It’s simple, and works consistently – provided you have a strong network connection.

Thanks to this technology, your AppleTV becomes a game console, jukebox, and web browser with a simple tap. Android has made huge strides in usability and out-of-the-box features in the past year or so, but this is still something that it’s lacking.

We received a couple tips yesterday about 2012 Macs being unable to update to 10.8.2 due to a password-related bug. It appears that today’s update resolves that issue.

With Apple rumored to be attempting to acquire a security solutions provider, a new move by AuthenTec to sell a portion of its business suggests Apple is most interested in its fingerprint scanning technology.

AuthenTec has reached a deal to sell its embedded security solutions division to another company, Inside Secure, NFC World reported on Monday. The deal means that AuthenTec has retained ownership of its combined fingerprint and wireless near-field communication solution, which is part of a separate division.
