Anonymous threatens to hit root Internet servers

An upcoming campaign announced by the hacking group Anonymous directed against the Internet's core address lookup system is unlikely to cause much damage, according to one security expert.

In a warning on Pastebin, Anonymous said last Thursday it would launch an action on March 31 as part of "Operation Global Blackout" that would target the root Domain Name System (DNS) servers.

Anonymous hits New Zealand Foreign Minister's email

Online activist group Anonymous hacked New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully's private email account and used it to send messages mocking him, it was reported Wednesday.
 
The group breached McCully's email account last April after New Zealand passed laws cracking down on illegal file-sharing and threatening to disconnect repeat offenders from the Internet, the Dominion Post reported.
 

Hackers attack Czech IFPI branch

The web page of the Czech branch of the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) was this morning attacked by unknown hackers who damaged its operation, head of the Czech IFPI Petra Zikovska has told CTK.

Zikovska said the attack was likely to be connected with the ACTA anti-counterfeiting treaty. After the attack, the web page www.ifpi.cz had a modified form and was not fully operational, Zikovska said.

CIA Website DDoSed, Struggles To Recover

An Anonymous-related Twitter channel claimed Friday that the group had successfully taken down the CIA's public-facing website.

The CIA website reportedly remained inaccessible several hours after the attack, then appeared to be offline intermittently for the rest of the weekend, as well as on Monday, in the face of what appeared to be a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. Anonymous had previously been making a habit of targeting the FBI on Fridays.

The hacker group “Anonymous” released a video Friday threatening to begin a ‘reign of terror’ against Israel, in the latest round of cyber warfare between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli hackers.

The video, which was posted on YouTube in the early hours of the morning, blamed Israel for committing 'crimes against humanity,' and criticizing it for its treatment of Palestinians.

Anonymous hackers have released data linking a Russian pro-Vladimir Putin youth group to an ongoing cyber campaign against opposition supporters.

Breaking via the Guardian, OpRussia saw the Russian cell of Anonymous upload hundreds of emails allegedly chronicling correspondence between Vasily Yakemenko and Kristina Potupchik between November 2010 and December 2012.
