Word out of theRegister has Intel confirming the delay of the PIII-1.13GHz re-release ... back to Q2 2001. As a result t-Reg speculates that this may indeed never happen, given that the succeeding P4 should be cranking around 1.7GHz at that point. Assuming Intel stuck in the Q2 timeframe, this speculation seems quite reasonable, as even AMD's low-cost Duron will probably faster next year Q2. Hopefully Intel keeps it real and all, as it would be sad to see AMD raise those lovely prices, or decelerate the pace to 2GHz.
This Techweb article from this past Friday has some pretty good info on the delay of 1.13GHz PIII, as well as a good rundown of Intel's planned schedule for releasing the various PIII and P4 speed grades. Here's the important part:
The good, wholesome chaps over at Ace's Hardware have updated their long-running series on High Performance CPUs to include some insight into the P4's architecture.

The Register is reporting on problems with the 850 Tehama chipset thus the P4 delay. The article also says that this delay has big OEMs worried about chip stability in future pre-builts.
"Dell is concerned that an instability within the chipset can cause the system to crash under heavy graphics load."
Yikes,
with all these 933 reviews I don't quite know what to do with
myself. What to do? Which should I read? Well, if you're in the
same boat aren't you lucky that I've just about read them all
over the last day or so. If you happen to be looking for technical
background & such details, check out what Anand's
cooked up ... for a plethora of comparative benchmark tests,
The
super sleuths over at the Register have some burning hot info
where Intel is going with its processor lines in
the upcoming year. Moreover, they've got another piece off
the skillet covering how much some of those procs will be running,
and when
we should expect some price breaks. Keep in mind, burning
