Japan's Cyber Security Minister Doesn't Use Computers
Politicians are always struggling to keep up with the fast pace of technology, but in the case of Japan's cyber security minister, another path was chosen. Rather than embracing technology, he's rejected it completely for his entire career.
As The Straits Times reports, cyber security minister Yoshitaka Sakurada admitted in Parliament on Wednesday that he has not used computers during his professional career. He is now 68, having started his career at 25. As a show of how little he understands, a question regarding the use of USB drives at Japan's nuclear plants confused him. The confusion wasn't over the question, but what a USB drive is. Imagine if someone asked him about the Panasonic Wear Space!
As you'd expect, such a revelation was met with great surprise in Japan. It was pointed out that Sakurada can claim to be very well protected against online threats thanks to avoiding them completely. He could thwart any hacker without lifting a finger. On the other hand, how can a man who knows nothing about technology be placed in charge of cyber security?
