PepsiCo Refutes Claim It Pilfered A Secret Document From A Russian Agency
PepsiCo denied accusations by a branch of the Russian government that the U.S. beverage company may have stolen a secret document from the body, possibly by via cyberattack.
The Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said Monday that PepsiCo acquired a file to which it shouldn't have had access. On Tuesday, national media outlets reported that the agency had alleged PepsiCo may have carried out a cyberattack and an act of corporate espionage by obtaining the file, which contained information about monitoring of milk processing plants.
The regulator now plans to contact law enforcement agencies about the potential act of commercial espionage. But in an emailed statement sent to Forbes, Sergey Glushkov, corporate affairs vice president for PepsiCo Eastern Europe, said: "PepsiCo refutes the accusations made today by Rosselkhoznadzor. We strictly comply with rules in Russia and all the countries in which we operate." The drinks giant declined to comment further on the matter.
