On May 26, the Dutch Women in Cyber Security Foundation (WiCS), will confer the very first Women of the Year Award at HITBSecConf! This yearly WiCS Award celebrates female front runners, who successfully and passionately strive to enhance the cyber security field. Recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of our champions, the WiCS Award is a showcase for the value of women to the cyber security field. The award ceremony will take place at the Hack in the Box Security Conference 2016, at NH Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam, at 17.45 on the 26th of May. It will be followed by an ‘I am the Cavalry’ meet-up with drinks sponsored by NIXU Corporation.

In 2013, a small group of women passionately active in cyber security, founded the Women in Cyber Security network (WiCS). This international network todays consists of over 600 women employed in a range of cyber security professions, who connect, exchange knowledge and ideas, and share experiences. Acting as role models, WiCS aims to show that highly capable women are professionally active in cyber (what do you mean, “there are no women”) and take the stage to demonstrate their professional skills (what do you mean, “we can’t find them”).

“Through several activities such as taking the stage at international conferences like HITB, hacking workshops, participation in CTF-competitions, teaching cyber skills in schools and more, the WiCS foundation aims to increase the number of women in cyber security.”, said Mary-Jo de Leeuw, Vice President of WICS.
