Why Does Apple NOT Prevent iPhone Unlocking Software?

While Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, has said that Apple will actively work against any SIM unlocks of the iPhone that has not stopped over two million iPhone owners from unlocking their phones. Since this statement from Mr. Jobs there has been a cat and mouse game between unlocking solutions and Apple’s defense against them.

When the iPhones first came out there were SIM unlocks that involved Turbo SIM cards and was a very complex process for the average owner. Then there came unlocks that involved soldering which were even more complex. Today the software unlocks available are so easy anyone can unlock iPhone 3Gs/3G 3.1.3.

What has become apparent is that Apples stance on iPhone hackers is dependant upon the hack. Apple is neutral if the hack is to provide function that Apple cannot provide at the time. Apple has even stated that they won’t actively attempt to break hacks when they release updates. But, this does not include unlock iPhone 3Gs/3G 3.1.3 to use with another carrier.
