US Senator Invaded By Worm

Saw this over at SNN

A staffer of Sen. Robert Bennett, R-Utah, a congressional leader on issues relating to electronic security, inadvertently opened an infected attachment that contained the "Homepage" worm. This cause the worm to be mailed to 200 people in the Senator's address book. Luckily, the Homepage worm is not destructive.

Now imagine if some foreign government or crime ring was actually targeting lawmakers with their own worm and their own remote control spy software. If Outlook Express was a "free" telephone that sometimes ended up bugged I don't think US Senators would be using it. Why is all common sense lost when it comes to software and computer security?
