Sony to PS3 hackers: Get ready for a banning wave
Sony continues its battle against the PS3 hack and officially announces that it is going to use the “doomsday weapon” and begin banning hacked consoles from the network.
PlayStation’s official blog stated that the company is going to cancel access of consoles located by it as hacked to the PSN network and in reality disconnecting them from the wide world. This means that gamers who hacked their consoles will not be able to play mass online games, download content and demos from the PSN store or download updates to games and the console’s system.
Bans against console hackers is the step Microsoft uses against Xbox 360 console hackers for many years now. It is more than likely that as was the case with Microsoft, Sony will experience the “cat and mouse” game. The company will implement a technology to identify the hacked consoles and ban them, hackers will find a way around its identifying capabilities and so on. It must be noted that the company has not yet began banning consoles and according to the blog it seems it is giving hackers a chance to redeem themselves by canceling the breach.
