Sir Cam steps up knight of terror
The Sir Cam virus, is continuing its rampage around the world, despite the fact that most antivirus (AV) companies have already released a remedy for it.According to reports, the dark knight of the virus world has seemingly evolved from one or two isolated infections into a whole army of incidents. Some AV companies have even reported thousands of hits over the last day or two.
Aside from mailing itself to everyone in the user's address book, the distinguishing feature of Sir Cam is that it forwards a random file from the My Documents folder along with it. The header of the email will be the same as the file name, but the virus won't infect a machine unless the attached file is opened.
It has also been discovered that the virus is capable of checking a PC's web cache and cookie folder and emailing itself to any addresses found on documents in those areas. This information has prompted popular websites to be on the look out for a possible flood of mail on their public facing inboxes.
AV companies have issued the usual advice. Updates to combat Sir Cam are available, so users should update their AV software immediately.
