Securing your computers, your network, your online presence – it’s all about the technology, right? You need your firewalls, your hardened web servers, your intrusion detection systems, and your savvy security mavens to make sure it’s all set up in a way that’s actually secure. While probably true, this doesn’t tell the whole story. Securing your business is about minimizing risk, and while technological solutions are absolutely necessary, it’s also important to consider other avenues. An increasingly popular one, according to a recent Reuters article, is “Cyber-insurance” – insurance covering high-tech catastrophes, which of course include security incidents. Whether or not such insurance is appropriate for your business is, of course, the hard question.
