Samsung Galaxy S8 rumored to feature optical fingerprint recognition
According to a post made on China’s microblogging site Weibo today, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be the world’s first smartphone to feature an optical fingerprint sensor.
What that basically means is that the Galaxy S8 will not come with a fingerprint scanner embedded inside the home button on the front. Instead, the fingerprint scanner is going to be integrated onto the display panel. Another recent report suggested that the Galaxy S8 will be company’s first flagship smartphone device with a display that will be curved on the top and bottom edges as well. That would mean that there will be no bezels anywhere on the front, which is why an optical fingerprint scanner makes a lot of sense. Optical fingerprint recognition is also said to be more accurate as well as faster when compared to the current crop of fingerprint scanners, including ultrasonic ones. However, the source of the info claims that the yield of optical fingerprint scanner is currently low. But since the Galaxy S8 is not expected to enter mass production at least for the next three or four months, things could change for the better.
