Russian-Speaking Hackers Drafting New Recruits

Wanted: More hackers for the Russian criminal underworld.

Faced with boosted cybersecurity defenses at banks, top Russian-speaking cybercriminals are opening their ranks in a way not previously seen, according to a new report from RSA, the security division of EMC.

The Russian-speaking world is home to numerous cybercrime rings. In the past, its leaders would only work with people based on the assumption they had some illegal chops. In short, would-be fraudsters needed digital street cred. That’s starting to change, said Limor Kessem, a cybercrime specialist for RSA based in Herzliya, Israel, just north of Tel Aviv. Now, several known cybercrime ringleaders are forming official training programs, complete with tuition, absence policies and job placement services
