Vendors of encryption products are seeing an opportunity for themselves in the growing acceptance of the Macintosh platform in mainstream enterprise IT environments.

Over the last few weeks, two vendors have released tools they say are designed to help corporate IT organizations provide full-disk encryption support for the Mac OS X platform.

One of those vendors is Menlo Park, Calif.-based PGP Corp. which on Monday announced a pre-boot authentication capability to its Whole Disk Encryption platform for Intel-based Mac OS X systems. The feature is designed to minimize the risk of data being compromised in the event that a Mac is lost or stolen, said John Dasher, director of product management for PGP. With it, users must authenticate themselves with a password before the operation system even begins loading on the system.L33tdawg: Seeing that my entire life is practically stored on my MBP, I've been really eagerly looking for a full disk encryption solution. USD119 is too much to pay imho, so looks like I'm going to need to wait for the Truecrypt folks to sort me out :)
