NSW job seekers' details safe after hacking

THE personal details of job seekers were not compromised when hackers accessed a NSW government jobs website, an investigation has found. The Department of Commerce, which administers jobs.nsw.gov.au, was forced to shut down the service last week after it was found hackers had targeted the site.

Job seekers raised concerns with the department when they began receiving unsolicited spam emails purporting to be from the site, alerting them to hoax job vacancies. It was feared the personal details of job seekers may have been compromised and the government commissioned Ernst & Young to investigate how the security breach occurred.

On Tuesday, the department said that while hackers had obtained email addresses, job seekers' personal details, such as their full names, addresses and phone numbers, were safe.
