The new Mac App Store is a revolution how exactly?
On Friday Apple announced that it is "bringing the revolutionary App Store experience to Mac OS X". The Mac App Store will be available 7 January next year, opening in 90 countries at launch and offering both free and paid apps for Mac users in a virtual shopfront likely to be familiar to anyone who's spent any time browsing the App Store for the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.
App categories are set to include Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity and Utilities. Additional featured sections will contain New and Noteworthy apps, What's Hot and Staff Favourites, and just like with the iDevices' App Store you'll be able to peruse users' reviews and ratings of apps. Purchasing apps will similarly be a one-click affair, and app updates will take place uniformly through the Mac App Store browser. So far, so good - and all largely expected.
