Netflix promises instant viewing for Macs
Earlier this year, Netflix began rolling out a movie download service, vaguely named "instant viewing" or "instant watching" or "watch instantly," depending on what part of the Netflix website you are looking at. Every Netflix subscriber is provided with a number of hours of video per month based upon the cost of his or her rental plan. Even if they are unable to use the service.
Besides requiring users to watch the video on their computers and rather hefty broadband requirements (up to 3Mbps to see content in native resolution), subscribers must also use either Windows XP or Vista and Internet Explorer. If the thought of part of your subscription fee supporting Windows users downloading movies is annoying, you can take solace in a post at the Netflix Community Blog by Steve, who is "responsible for the instant watching feature on our site."
