Napster still growing
If there's on thing that's universally clear from the RIAA's attack on Napster, it's that a) there's something out there called Napster, and b) I can get free music on it. What am I blathering about, you ask? Nothing other than the stellar advertising job for Napster on the part of the RIAA--so stellar in fact that Napster use in September was at an all-time high. Some 1.39 billions songs were supposedly downloaded in September (of which a surprising number were likely not to be anything decent). Not only is the application doing well, but so is their website:
Media Metrix added more fuel to the Napster debate this morning, when the online traffic monitoring company announced that Napster attracted 6.7 million unique users in August. That's a 509 percent increase from the 1.1 million users Napster had in February, making Napster the fastest-growing Web application Media Metrix has ever tracked.
Media Metrix, which tracks web site properties, charges a hefty fee to do so (it's used for advertising specs). The reason I find this data interesting is that the only reason I can see for Napster to be on Media Metrix is for them to get into on-line advertising
