The Music Freedom Project

The Music Freedom Project has launched today as an alternative means of licensing for webcasters and small AM/FM stations.

Rather than have broadcasters spend thousands a year to cover the fees of the RIAA, ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, the project is based on the idea that there are many musicians and labels out there that would rather have more exposure and CD sales than to receive a small royalty check at the end of the year. Signup is free for musicians and labels, and webcasters need only make a $25 minimum yearly donation to be registered as a broadcaster, so long as they follow some simple guidelines for playing music from the artists that do sign up.
