Mobile Carriers Provide Handsets for Security
Nowadays, mobile handsets are indispensable parts of everyday life. And that becomes increasingly true as the digital gadgets start to protect their owners in times of trouble.
Starting this month, LG Telecom, the domestic wireless operator, launched a novel security service, named ``Aladdin,'' for the first time in the country.
Under the new offering, an Aladdin-enabled handset takes a picture of the dangerous situation in which the owner is in and sends the picture to three preset persons along with location information by the push of a button.
However, people need to buy the Aladdin phone, priced at over 400,000 won with a camera built in, to take advantage of the new security service.
Undermining such cost concerns, No. 2 carrier KTF started its own ``Mobile Bodyguard'' service, which enables the security service with even current stand-alone handsets, from Monday.
KTF subscribers in trouble can send urgent messages and location information to three preset persons by pushing the call button twice; picture transfer is impossible, though.
KTF customers can download the services online through their cell phones at the cost of 2,500 won. The emergency warning costs users 100 won for every message.
