THE Internet usage in the Middle East has witnessed a substantial increase of 480 per cent since 2000-'01, said a press statement.

To capitalise on this, VeriSign Inc., a leading provider of intelligent infrastructure for networked world, has opened its first Middle East office in Dubai and appointed Neil Batstone as Territory Manager.

The company's presence will enable it to protect interactions across voice and data networks in the Middle East, while improving service to its existing customers in the region previously serviced from VeriSign's EMEA headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Batstone, with over five years experience working in the Middle East and ten years in the security and telecommunications industry, will build a team of local sales and technical support staff.

VeriSign expects staffing levels to ramp up quickly as the Dubai operation grows to meet increasing regional customer demand.
