Keeping your computer safe is an important part of going online. As well as protecting yourself against viruses, there is also the threat of other forms of malware to consider. Rather than installing a number of different tools to deal with the various kinds of threat that exist, why not turn to a single program that can take care of all of them? Microsoft Security Essentials Beta is an update to the previously released Microsoft Security Essentials.

The program offers real-time and on-demand protection against a range of threats and new advancements in the program mean that an increased number of threats can be dealt with automatically on your behalf. In addition to real-time protection and manual system scans, it is also possible to configure scheduled scans and you can opt to download the latest virus and spyware definition as part of this automated process.

For anyone that has used a previous version of the application, there are minor interface tweaks to look out for. New fonts have been used here and there, and there are a number of areas that have been cleaned up to help to keep things uncluttered. But the biggest improvement is in terms of performance so you should notice less impact on system performance when scans are running.
