Look out for the 'Magistr' Worm

posted onMarch 16, 2001

Not sure if you've read about this already or not, but McAfee are warning PC users to be on the lookout for a potentially nasty worm called "Magistr". The worm has been rated as a medium-risk threat because it appears to be spreading slowly. That being said though, the payload of the virus is supposedly "deadly" having capability to destroy filesystems (on Windows 9x machines), as well as rewrite key start-up settings and functions stored in the CMOS memory and flash BIOS. Read the report here and make sure you update those virus definition files!
