Intel Corporation recently announced the Asian Broadband Campaign, a pan-regional program aimed at accelerating wireless broadband deployment in Southeast Asian countries. Intel is providing its extensive broadband wireless expertise, silicon and technical services for governments, telecommunications regulators, education, health and agriculture public sector agencies, and carriers including True Corporation in Thailand, and TM Net in Malaysia to help them prepare for and conduct WiMAX trials. These trials can facilitate connectivity amongst key public and private sector groups to help countries fulfill their United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

"The developing countries of Southeast Asia have committed to the United Nations that they will aim to eradicate severe poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development by 2015," said Sean Maloney, executive vice president, Mobility Group, Intel Corporation. "Intel believes that WIMAX can be the foundation that can help them reach these goals. Standards-based wireless broadband connectivity can help enable technologies that can facilitate better education, healthcare, agricultural productivity and incomes, successful SMBs, eGovernment access and technologies supporting the whole family."
