HITB Security Conference Returns to Dubai

After an eight-year hiatus, the HITB Security Conference series is returning to the Middle East with the support of government organisations, taking place from November 25th to the 28th 2018 at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai.

Featuring two days of technical training courses followed by a two-day multi-track conference, the event will also feature a Capture the Flag competition, technology exhibition with a focus area on IoT and blockchain related tech, space for makers and hackerspaces as well as a car hacking and hardware related village. The event also includes the CommSec track, a free-to-attend track of 30 and 60-minute talks that will also be live-streamed on YouTube.  Hack in the Box (HITB) is an annual must-attend event in the calendars of security researchers and professionals around the world. The event was hosted earlier this year in Amsterdam and Singapore with the Beijing leg being held next month.

HITB is partnering with UAE based company DarkMatter Group, the region’s first and only fully-integrated digital transformation, defence and cyber security consultancy and implementation firm. In parallel with HITB, DarkMatter Group is organising a business track called ‘Beyond Cyber’ where senior IT and C-level executives get to learn more on topics like Threat Intelligence, Digital Transformation and Cyber Transformation.

The Dubai Electronic Security Center is supporting and endorsing the HITB Security Conference as part of its ‘Dubai Cyber Security Strategy’, whose key domains include innovation, where the centre is committed to promoting cybersecurity research & development, in addition to establishing a secure cyberspace in Dubai and influencing it globally. Dr Bushra Al Blooshi, Head of Research and Innovation at Dubai Electronic Security Centre, said, “We are confident that this event will have a huge impact on cybersecurity not only in the UAE but regionally. The event will bring together eminent national, regional and international experts, and will tackle the latest in cybersecurity challenges as strategic component of the digital transformation, in addition to presenting our government and academic partners with global training opportunities.

“We are looking to support Dubai governmental efforts in its futuristic plans and initiatives by highlighting electronic security challenges in the fourth industrial revolution era, among others,” Dr Al Blooshi added.

Organisers of the event have lined up a roster of internationally renowned speakers who will be discussing the latest in cybersecurity and how regional organisations can protect themselves. Jaya Baloo whose work on secure network architecture design is internationally recognised. Baloo has completed projects ranging from Lawful Interception, Deep Packet Inspection, VoIP and Mobile Security, to designing national MPLS infrastructures and ISP architectures. Mikko Hypponen is a worldwide authority on computer security and the chief research officer of F-Secure. He has written on his research for the New York Times, Wired and Scientific American and lectured at the universities of Oxford, Stanford and Cambridge. Hypponen has been listed on Foreign Policy Magazine’s Top 100 Global Thinkers list.
