HITB Security Conference 2002: Day 2 and CTF draws to a close

Well the first 2 days of the HITB Security Conference 2002 is finally over and done with. As you guys most likely know, we kicked it all off with Capture the Flag sessions -- 32 hours non-stop. Although we initially had about 30 people signed up to attend, only about 11 people actually participated. We did have a few observers now and again. Eitherways, the first 2 days were a success, and the analysis of the attacks and methods used will be presented tomorrow (18th July 2002, at the Securities Commissions Building, Mont Kiara @ 4:30 or 5pm). This will be followed by the prize giving ceremony.

Incidentally, the prize for the successful CTF participant is a Cobalt Raq server *drool*. Anyways, while we already know the final verdict, I'm not going to announce it here until after the conference -- so please come tomorrow!

We'll also be providing CDs of the tcpdump traffic (it's well over 1GB of data in plain text). We're also putting the snort logs in there for good measure. Further to all this, alphaque.com has agreed to setup a Demarc frontend to the mysql database and put it online for everyone to have a look at. Much love to alphaque himself for hooking this up for us...

A bit of good news for everyone who can't make it tomorrow -- the entire conference (tomorrow's session only) will be recorded and made available online sometime soon (I'm hoping next week, but I have no idea when it'll be exactly. Trust that you'll hear about it here *grin*). I know it would have been cooler if it was being streamed live, but unfortunately the logistics makes this next to impossible. Maybe next year. :)

Okay! I hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow. Even if you can't stay for the whole day, do come by and say 'hi'. The conference t-shirts (which rock btw!) will be going on sale tomorrow as well, so bring cash. Eitherways, we've got a fairly small quantity only, but you can place your orders for the second batch tomorrow itself. I'll put the order form up and pictures of the t-shirts for everyone who can't make it by Monday.

Lastly, I'd like to give a HUGE HUGE thank you to everyone who helped with the CTF setup and sessions making it perhaps one of the coolest events I've attended in a while! Major props to the following most excellent people I've ever had a chance to work with: Justin, Mark, Dr. Nah, Helene, Yusmar, Dr. Dinesh, Gerard, the entire Extol team, Sun Microsystems and everyone who helped and supported us along the way. A huge thank you as well to all the participants and to those who came to watch. We're definetely doing this again next year! *grin*
