Haralson bus driver fired after Facebook posting

Social media has been abuzz about the case of a Haralson County Middle School bus driver who was fired after posting statements to Facebook about a student not receiving a lunch.

School representatives say the issue has been blown out of proportion and call it an unfortunate case of miscommunication, saying the incident Johnny Cook posted about never happened. But Cook is sticking to his story and says something still needs to be done about lunch policies nationwide, not just here at home.

Talk began after Cook posted to his Facebook page that a student boarded his bus on May 21 and told him he was hungry because he didn’t get a lunch that day. “About 15 minutes into our ride, I asked him (the student) how his day was. He told me, ‘Mr. Johnny, I’m hungry,’” Cook said. “When I asked him why, he said he didn’t eat lunch that day. When I asked him why not, he told me, ‘When I took my tray to the register, they told me I didn’t have any money on my account.’”
