Hackers Add SMS To ‘Jailbroken’ iPad 3G

A group called the iPhone Dev Team (who are not officially associated with Apple) have claimed they have already been able to port across the iPhone’s SMS application and run it using command lines on the recently release iPad 3G + WiFi.

Though neither model of the iPad is available in Australia yet (pre-ordering begins next Monday), the team have reportedly managed to unofficially add support to the iPad 3G for messaging once a third-party SIM is placed into the device with an SMS plan.

In a video released on YouTube showing a demonstration of the app, it’s made clear that at this stage the only way to use it once it’s been ported across is via a command line interface, rendering it still unusable for most people at the moment.
