Geohot Calls to the Public for Help
George Hotz, commonly known as Geohot, the hacker whiz who released limera1n and other jailbreaking tools for iOS devices, is for the first time appealing to the public for help in his ongoing defense against Sony’s lawsuit. Why is Sony suing him? Because Geohot jailbroke his PS3, which he very legally paid for and owns, and because he was kind enough to share the PS3 master key online. Now, Geohot could use your aid in beefing up his legal defense.
On his website, Geohot has posted the following, along with a donation button: "Media, I need your help. This is the first time I have ever asked. Please, if you support this cause, help me out and spread the word. I want, by the time this goes to trial, to have Sony facing some of the hardest hitting lawyers in the business. Together, we can help fix the system."
Geohot currently has two lawyers, while Sony, as a huge MNC, has five. Geohot further states that donations are solely for his legal defense. Any excess funds will be donated to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), an organization aimed at fighting for everyone’s freedom in digital rights.
