Games Are Good, proven fact!
Source: BBC
If you`re a gamer you will not be surprised by this bit of news, but it will give you some ammunition the next time your parents or some other old timer moans at you for playing games.
Recently a UK study was carried out to see if computer games could become part of the national school curriculum. The results showed that games requiring players to create societies or build theme parks, did developed children`s strategic thinking and planning skills to the point that it became "educational" (the key word here).
Parents and teachers also thought their children`s mathematics, reading and spelling improved. The investigation into the habits of 700 children aged seven to 16 also found that, far from being a solitary activity, children preferred to play games in pairs or small groups.
One moan I will have however is they did not look at FPS (First person shoot-themup) games. The beach landing in Medal of Honor is one example I can give of a FPS game that brings it home to you the fear the men on the day must of felt. This could give children a insight into how bad war really was at the time?
Anyway... The next time you`re playing a game and someone shouts at you about wasting time, don`t sit there and take it. Point out the educational benefits and confuse the abuser with educational logic :).
